TWO teenage girls fled a flat fire in Essex today.
The girls, aged 15 and 17, escaped from a property in Burdett Avenue, Westcliff at 6.45am.
The flat and the communal area, which leads to other ground floor flats, were smoke logged by a small fire which had started in a grill in the kitchen.
A neighbour heard the smoke alarm activating and called 999.
Firefighters worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading to the adjoining flats and lead the two girls to safety. The girls suffered smoke inhalation.
The fire was out by 7.11am.
