A BOMB disposal team was called out to a Suffolk town today after a grenade was found in a garden.

Suffolk police were called to an address on High Road East in Felixstowe at about 12.41pm.

It is believed the hand grenade was found by a gardener working in the back garden of the property. A bomb disposal team from RAF Wittering was called to the incident and took the grenade away before blowing it up in a nearby field.

May Rix, who lives next door to the house where the grenade was found, said: “The gardener next door was raking around near the fence and he told me that he picked up this old grenade and he said it still had the pin in it so he phoned the police and then the bomb disposal people came in.

“He sounded a bit shocked. I was a bit surprised but not really that worried as I was around during the war when I was younger. It is a bit of a shock though.”

High Road East was closed off while the bomb disposal team dealt with the grenade.
