As Ipswich returned to normal today after hours of gridlock misery, there were warnings that more chaos is inevitable.
Two separate accidents to the south of the town closed the A14 – forcing traffic to jam into the town centre, snarling almost every main route. And a power cut hit crucial traffic lights at a crucial junction.
But as the roads returned to normality today, there were fears that more lorries using the A14 could increase the risk of accidents – and lead to more gridlock when the road is closed.
