Jane Cowie, 70, had treatment at the hospital for bone marrow cancer, and in recognition of the hospital’s care laid on an afternoon tea event for friends, family and neighbours.

The day raised more than £600 for the cause.

She said: “I am so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family who have come together to support me. I didn’t realise the important work that Macmillan do until my diagnosis.

“It’s the little things that they have done that has made a huge difference for me. Something we sometimes take for granted is getting out and about and Macmillan arranged a wheelchair and blue badge for me within days of my diagnosis, which has made life so much easier and less stressful.”
