DESPITE various reported sighting of Chopper the harris hawk at various locations in Suffolk he is today still free as a bird!

So far Chopper has been spotted in various places including Ipswich, Thorpe Morieux near Lavenham and most recently Felixstowe.

Air conditioning engineer Allen Harris spotted an exotic-looking bird perched on a streetlight outside Anzani House at the entrance to Felixstowe docks just before midday yesterday.

He said: "It was circling around then landed. I thought I might get a couple of mice and try and lure it down.

"I couldn't see how big it was from where I was standing, but it looked very unusual."

The large brown bird, which is owned by Natures Way Pest Control in Rayleigh, was shooing pigeons away from the stands at Ipswich Town Football Club when he made his getaway.

Although the two-year-old bird has been missing for 15 days now, it appears he is not ready to leave Suffolk and return to his base in Essex.

Don Warren, one of the partners of Natures Way, is offering a reward for anyone who provides information leading to the capture of Chopper.

Anybody who spots the hawk is advised not to approach him or feed him as it will make the job of catching him even more difficult.

Harris hawks are the most sociable of all breeds of falcons and pose no danger to the public.
