SUFFOLK smokers keen to kick the habit will be able to get the help they need to stub it out once and for all from special drop in sessions taking place in Ipswich.

Held by the Suffolk Stop Smoking Service, the free sessions are open to anybody who wants to beat their addiction. Advisors who have helped thousands to give up smoking will be on hand to work with individuals or pairs, offering a flexible service to help overcome language barriers or problems with confidence.

During the drop in sessions, which take place at Community Solutions in Bramford Road between noon and 1pm on Thursdays, advisors will be able to give help and advice on available medications and behavioural change.

Later in the afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm, advisors will hold an additional clinic.

Anyone who wants to attend between these times will need to make an appointment.

Olive Quinton, health improvement facilitator for Suffolk Stop Smoking Service, said: “We are trying to target people who wouldn't normally come forward and ask for help.

“This can happen for a variety of reasons, including confidence issues and because of perceived language barriers.

“The service we offer in Ipswich is very flexible as people can bring along friends or family as support, who can then act as a translator if English isn't the quitter's first language.

“We consistently find that one-on-one sessions give smokers the best possible chance of giving up. We can look at an individual's needs and, depending on what is best for them, give them nicotine replacement treatment if they need it or refer them to a clinic.

“We will do our best to help people stop - so would encourage anyone considering doing so to drop in and stub it out once and for all.”

Anyone is welcome to drop in to the session. Alternatively, you can make an appointment to see an advisor between 2pm and 4pm. You can contact the Suffolk Stop Smoking Service on 0800 0856 037 or by e-mail at suffolk.stop.smoking@ipswichhospital.nhs.uk
