SUFFOLK is today being warned to expect an onslaught of high winds this weekend.
The Meteorological Office says high winds of up to 70 miles per hour are forecast for the area tomorrow night, with lower but still significant winds throughout the rest of the weekend.
It says there will be a very disturbed spell of weather over the next few days, with short periods of damaging winds affecting many regions.
East Anglia is expected to get a spell of heavy rain and squally winds tomorrow with damaging gusts of 70mph possible and a 70per cent risk of disruption.
It is also expected to be windy on Sunday evening, with gusts of 40mph to 50mph and people are warned to take care on their New Years' Eve celebrations
A spokesman from Suffolk Coastal District Council, which said it is “heeding the announcements” from the Met office, said: “There is a significant risk that residents could be harmed unless due care is taken and the emergency planning team at Suffolk Coastal is recommending that, under such conditions, people should take extra care.
