ENERGY bosses today apologised to residents for leaving a hole in their pavement - and immediately set about repairing the problem.

Householders in Russell Road, Felixstowe, were left baffled after workmen turned up to dig the hole and then left it surrounded with barriers for a month.

For resident Nettie Trigg it has provided more of a pain because she is waiting for an operation on her spine and has difficulty walking, and has had to park further down the road.

She said: “To begin with I wasn't bothered much by it because these things happen and people have to be able to do their jobs and fix problems.

“But after a couple of weeks I thought I would ring up, but when you ring the number for help on the sign you can never get through. It is hopeless. It just rings and rings.

“It has been four weeks now and no-one has returned to deal with it. I am getting a bit annoyed and frustrated by it now and just want to see it done.”

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy Networks apologised to customers for the inconvenience and disruption. The work followed a fault on the underground electricity network caused a power cut to 30 homes on January 24.

All customers had their power restored in three hours and engineers completed repairs the following day.

“Unfortunately the reinstatement work was not carried out as soon as we would have liked,” said the spokeswoman.

“Now a temporary reinstatement has been completed and the barriers surrounding the excavation removed. Permanent work is expected to be completed over the coming days.”
