A local football club is facing a huge clean-up operation after travellers finally left their playing fields.

Claydon FC officials were shocked to find four caravans had made camp on their pitches two weekends ago.

They were asked to leave but it took an eviction order to persuade them to move on.

Now though the ordeal is not over – the travellers have left their mark.

Simon Longley, the club’s press officer, said: “While there is no physical damage there are a number of issues that must be sorted out.

“There is an amount of waste left on the site but more worrying is the fact they seems to have dumped the waste from the caravans onto the site.”

Faced with rubbish and human excrement to clean up Mr Longley said the plans of the club’s groundsman would have to be put back at least a week.

“Having them on the site was just one of the issues and that’s probably less of an issue than what now faces us,” he added.

The club has already received support from Claydon Skip Hire to deal with the household waste.

Anyone else who can help the club in its time of need, as a volunteer, with resources or financially, is asked to contact the club.
