The two men stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes after threatening the woman in Murphy's Costcutters in Sturmer Road, Haverhill, at about 11pm yesterday.

Police believe they escaped in a gold-coloured Vauxhall Astra, which was later abandoned in the Steeplechase area on Hundon.

The Astra is thought to have been stolen from Lockinton Road, Stowmarket, between 8.45am and 5.15pm on Monday .

No shots were fired in the robbery and no one was injured but police are investigating if it is linked to a series of similar robberies in the region.

"This must have been a terrifying ordeal for the three female members of staff who were in the building at the time of the robbery," Det Insp David Rutterford said.

He added: "We would like to here from anyone who was in the area of the Costcutters store around 11pm last night or anyone who has information about the theft of the Astra from Stowmarket.

"Please contact us if you have information about the movements of the Astra since Monday or if you witnessed it being abandoned."

The first offender was wearing a cream-coloured balaclava, a dark puffa-style jacket and dark trainers while the second offender was wearing a dark balaclava, a dark puffa-style jacket, blue jeans and dark shoes.
