Fire crews put out flames at a home in Ipswich this morning prompting an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Police and paramedics were sent alongside fire engines from Princes Street and Ipswich East stations to reports of a fire in an outbuilding near the couple’s two-storey home in Alan Road.

Two pumps put out the fire, described by chiefs as being relatively small, within 20 minutes.

Crews were dispatched at around 11.04am and had managed to extinguish the blaze by 11.22am.

However, police officers were asked to attend following reports the elderly couple had allegedly refused to leave their home during the incident.

Ambulance crews were called but no-one is thought to have been injured.

The East of England Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.

A police spokesman said a joint investigation will be carried out with the fire service into the cause of the blaze in due course.
