Park rangers worked throughout daylight hours to ensure Christchurch Park was ready for tonight’s big firework display – but elsewhere in the town parks are still shut while the clear-up continues.

Borough council staff have concentrated on clearing up Bourne Park and Chantry Park because it is not possible to lock them to the public.

One of the last parks expected to reopen is Holywells where there has been major damage. Members of the Friends of Holywells Park joined rangers to help assess the damage.

It is not expected to open until the second half of next week.

Other parks that remain closed include Landseer Park, Stone Lodge Park, and Alexandra Park. The Orwell Country Park is not officially closed, but members of the public are advised to stay away from it at present because rangers have not yet been able to make an assessment of the damage.
