An Ipswich man has been arrested after an incident where a driver was assaulted in her car.

The attack happened in Chelmsford when a female motorist, in her 50s, was forced to stop by a man standing in the middle of Rainsford Road at 3.30am on Sunday August 24.

She was asked to take him to the High Street, but when she declined the man tried to take the car keys and punched her in head.

The victim, a special constable from Chelmsford, was able to drive off and was left with minor bruising and swelling.

A 23-year-old man from Ipswich has been arrested and released on police bail until Tuesday November 4 pending further enquiries.
