Due to popular demand, Ipswich’s food and drink ‘Forknight’ will be returning next month.

The two week exhibition focusing on all things cuisine will come to Ipswich between Sunday, May 11 and Sunday, May 25.

This year’s Forknight will include a brand new feature, the All About Ipswich local food and drink market.

This will take place in the Cornhill on Sunday, May 11, featuring the best of Suffolk’s produce.

Some of the county’s most renowned chefs will provide cooking demonstrations including Emma Crowhurst, Mike Keane from the Brewery Tap, Jason Shaw, head chef at the Wentworth Hotel, Frederick Lebrun, head chef at Mariners restaurant and Ipswich’s own artisan butcher, Jamie Willows.

There will also be delicious local tasters and produce from one of Britain’s best bakeries, The Cake Shop Bakery, Stokes Sauces, Suffolk Smokehouse and Deli, artisan ice cream makers and many more.

During the second week of Forknight, the Waterfront Food and Drink Festival will be introduced with Jean Christopher Novelli appearing as this year’s celebrity chef on Sunday, May 18.

The critically acclaimed celebrity chef will be alongside national and international suppliers, cooking and baking seminars plus plenty of entertainment. The aim of the two week promotion is to raise awareness of the eateries, bars and restaurants in our town with a range of events, recipe ideas, tasty treats and dining out deals.

Paul Clement, chief executive of Ipswich Central, said: “As the county town of Suffolk, we want to showcase the fantastic bars, restaurants and eateries of Ipswich.

“The Forknight is a fantastic way to celebrate these businesses as well as the local producers and local chefs that will be headlining the first market of Forknight on Sunday, May 11.”

Gordon Mole, head of cultural services at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “We are all looking forward to one of the big events of the Ipswich calendar. It is an opportunity to showcase the great range of food and drink you can enjoy in our town and, hopefully, we will have a bit of sunshine to go with it.”
