THE chairman of Ipswich Wanderers Football Club has contacted police after receiving threatening text messages.

Terry Fenwick reported receiving messages of a harassing nature to police on February 22.

Mr Fenwick, 53, said the messages had been sent from an unknown number and concerned his role at the Thurlow Nunn First Division club.

“The text messages were about my position as chairman and about my workplace,” he said.

“At first I thought they were a joke but they got more threatening and that is when I contacted the police.

“It hasn’t been a nice experience for myself or for my family.

“I love my position as chairman and I am really enjoying it.

“I think that we have seen great improvements during my time here. The team is flying now.”

A club statement was posted on Ipswich Wanderers’ website, which read: “Over the past week, Mr Fenwick has been subjected to a series of abusive, harassing and threatening texts about his workplace and his role as Wanderers chairman.

“These constant messages have been extremely distressing for Terry and his family and police are now treating this as a serious case of harassment.

“Terry is a well-liked and well respected chairman, who is enjoying his time working at Wanderers.”

Last month, Wanderers reached their first Suffolk Senior Cup final for 16 years after defeating Crane Sports in the semi-final at Woodbridge Town’s Notcutts Park ground.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said they were investigating the matter and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
