Ipswich Hospital has become one of just a handful of organisations across Suffolk to install a special type of toilet for patients with profound learning and physical disabilities.
The Changing Places facility gives people with conditions such as muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis, as well as those with severe spinal injuries, the extra space and equipment they need to ensure their safety and comfort.
The toilet is located in the Outpatients Department and cost £65,000 to build.
Mark Finch, capital projects manager with Ipswich Hospital’s estates team, said: “Thousands of people across the UK are unable to use a standard accessible toilet, which is why these Changing Places toilets are so important. They provide much more space for individuals and their carers, as well as vital equipment to help them use the toilet safely and comfortably.”
The Changing Places website lists all of these toilets which are currently available, allowing carers to play their journeys.
