An 18-year-old is in hospital with a serious head injury after crashing his Alfa Romeo in the Suffolk countryside, police have said.

The teenager, thought to be from the Ipswich area, was taken to hospital after the yellow Alfa Romeo flipped over on to its side in Rands Road, Layham, near Hadleigh, shortly before 2.30pm today.

It is thought it was a single-vehicle incident.

He sustained a wound to the head, a knee injury and other cuts and bruises, and was taken to Ipswich Hospital by land ambulance.

His injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening or life-changing by spokesmen from Suffolk Constabulary and the East of England Ambulance Service.

The 18-year-old was conscious when emergency crews arrived and was placed on a spinal board and taken to hospital at around 3.45pm.

Police believe no other vehicles were involved in the collision and that the teenager is from the Ipswich area.

The road remains partially blocked following the incident, which will be investigated by Suffolk Constabulary’s serious collision investigation unit.
