A motorcyclist in his 20s died this morning after his vehicle struck railings and glass in a single vehicle collision near the Waterfront in Ipswich.

The incident, which involved a Yamaha DT 125 bike, happened at about 2.50am today directly outside the University Campus Suffolk building. Police and paramedics were called to the scene.

Police tried to resuscitate the rider, described as a man in his early 20s from Ipswich, and this was carried on by ambulance service personnel.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital but died a short time later.

The Waterfront was closed so an investigation could take place and recovery could be arranged – the road re-opened at 8.15am.

Police say they were alerted at 2.35am today to reports of a motorbike which was riding at high speeds through the town centre.

They are asking for anyone who has information, or anyone who may have seen the bike travelling through the town, to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101 quoting CAD 53 of 26/7/14.
