Ipswich mum Janine Bree to continue Kaden McKenna’s fundraising legacy for leukaemia

The mother of a brave youngster who selflessly spent the last weeks of his life raising money for good causes has vowed to continue his work.

Ravenswood Community Primary School pupil Kaden McKenna was diagnosed with leukaemia in December last year and died just five weeks later in January.
But despite the devastating news, the nine-year-old committed himself to raising money for good causes, including a sponsored head shave for the C2 ward at Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he was being treated.
Now, following a fundraising day organised by pupils at Ravenswood which raised more than £5,000, proud mum Janine Bree, 34, will be tackling her fear of heights alongside family and friends to continue Kaden’s spirit and generosity.
“It’s nice to carry on something he started, even though he knew he was ill,” she said.
“All he wanted to do was raise £100 and so far with the school and when he passed away he has raised over £10,000. That’s going towards everything that meant something to us throughout his illness – it’s keeping his memory alive.”
Despite her fear of heights, Miss Bree will undertake a skydive in Beccles on July 23, alongside 62-year-old mum Karen Lloyd, sisters Terri Churchill and Katrina Trewen, sister-in-law Michelle Peacock and friend Jackie Blade.

“I am not great with heights,” Miss Bree said. “It’s something I know that if my boy was still here he would be so proud – especially to raise money for children in his ward at Addenbrooke’s and to keep their spirits up.”
