A GROUP of students have been given the chance to address the big questions about their education and future careers.
Fresh from the success of a project at Holbrook Academy, Jill Barton of Giving Young People A Voice and Paul Press of the Offshoot Foundation have started working with students at Stoke High School on a new Who Asks Us? project.
The project aims to boost the pupils’ confidence and self-esteem and address topical educational issues.
The year nine students have been split into different project groups, each of which will tackle a different area.
Students Jenna Bird, Jamal Barcroft, Yasmin Worby, Scott Fountain, Ellie Tiller, Sehar Akhter and George Leggett – The Further Education Focus Group – will look at the benefits of continuing in education until they are 18.
Leah Burn, Josh Finch, Tersharn Smith, Jessica Bentley, Bradley Martyn and Isaac Aitkins – The Business/Careers Focus Group – will look at the skills gap currently facing them in Suffolk and establish from employers what relevant skills they expect them to have in order to make them employable.
Kye Gladwell, Alicia Clayden, Harry Craddock, Chris Scarlett, Louisa Sadler and Veronica O’Brien – The Stress, Health and Wellbeing Group – will look at the stresses of exams/school life and the resultant effect on students’ health and wellbeing, confidence, self-esteem and self harm.
The students will visit local businesses and colleges to find out more about their options.
