ipswich: Personal details were sent to the wrong person in a pensions office blunder, it can be revealed today.

Trevor Douglas, of Wallers Grove, received a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions on Wednesday informing him he is soon eligible for a pension – but he also received a letter meant for a woman from Lowestoft.

The 64-year-old, who lives with wife Mary, said: “I’m disgusted to have received someone else’s personal details attached to my letter.

“I’ve got her name, address and National Insurance number, so what’s to stop me from using them fraudulently?

“It worries me that my details could be sent out to someone else by mistake.”

Mr Douglas, who turns 65 next week, added: “Paperwork seems to be going missing or sent to the wrong person more often.

“All these cutbacks we hear about in the news are making staff more rushed which is how mistakes are made .

“It could be people’s bank details sent out next and if they’re not honest people like me, who knows what could happen.”

A Department for Work and Pensions spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to Mr Douglas for any inconvenience caused.

“We take the confidentiality of our customer information very seriously and we will be investigating this incident to find out how this happened. We have now retrieved the document from Mr Douglas.”
