Ipswich: Resident worried as borough fails to clear leaf danger on path
A CONCERNED resident is angry with the council for failing to clear slippery leaves from a well-used pathway.
Ian Gregory, 47, of Whitland Close, regularly walks along the stretch of path in Stoke Park Drive next to Bourne Park and first became worried about the amount of fallen leaves on the path in October.
Mr Gregory contacted Ipswich Borough Council to ask them to clear the leaves, as they were making the pathway slippery for pedestrians.
He said: “I know it’s busy at this time of year with pedestrians, but elderly people, children and churchgoers use that road and somebody’s going to have a serious accident if it’s not cleared.”
Mr Gregory became increasingly concerned as the leaves began to rot and became mulchy and even more hazardous for pedestrians.
“You had to walk on the kerb to avoid them and that’s dangerous,” he said.
Mr Gregory raised the issue at a local area committee and spoke to the council several more times in the hopes of getting the rotting leaves cleared.

He said: “I’m wondering if it’s going to take an accident before something can be done.”
An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said: “We’d like to thank Mr Gregory for bringing this to our attention. The problem of leaves is obviously at its most acute at this time of year, when they are falling from trees on a daily basis.
“Our team is working very hard across the town to solve the problem.”
The spokesman also confirmed the leaves were due to be cleared this week.
