Ipswich station forecourt should be fully open by Easter, but road engineers will have to return at the end of the month to resurface the taxi/bus waiting area.
The £1m scheme to remodel the front of the station has been undertaken by the county council which is also installing new traffic lights at the top of Princes Street and at the Ancaster Road junction.
Ranelagh Road should partially re-open on Sunday – but there will still be some restrictions while work by National Grid Gas continues at the Ancaster Road junction.
The road should be fully reopened on Maundy Thursday, April 13, although the surface will still be rough.
This is because Anglian Water contractors will return to the area during the early summer to install new underground water pipes. The road will be finally resurfaced during August to ensure all the work is completed by the start of the next academic year.
A spokesman for the county council said all the work should be completed on schedule: “It is all going to plan and the forecourt should be fully functioning by Easter.”
The work to resurface the short-term parking area near the multi-storey car park at the station will take place over Thursday and Friday nights between midnight and 5am.
The resurfacing of the new drop-off area to the right of the station entrance will be completed on the nights of April 21 and 22, again between midnight and 5am.
The resurfacing of the bus and taxi rank will take longer – the area will be out of action between 9am on Monday April 24 and 8am on Friday April 28.
During this time taxis will use the short-term parking area near the multi-storey car park which will be restricted for other vehicles during these three days.
Once all the work is completed the county council and rail company Greater Anglia which manages the station is expected to have a formal re-opening to mark the completion of this work and the £1m upgrade of the station itself that was completed at the end of last year.
The road works are one of the last parts of the Travel Ipswich programme and the new lights will be linked in with other lights around the town which are part of the town’s new urban traffic management system aimed at keeping vehicles moving in the town centre.
