As our troops prepare for their Homecoming Parade, The Star is once again calling for people to get out on the streets and help us Honour Our Heroes.

Members of the 1st Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment (The Vikings) will parade through the town on Monday, November 5.

The Star is urging as many people as possible to show their pride in our troops by lining the route as they march through Ipswich town centre.

The march will start at 12.30pm from the junction of Westgate Street and High Street and will be: Cornhill (Inspection) – Tavern Street – Northgate Street – Upper Brook Street – Butter Market – Queen Street/King Street – Corn Exchange.

The Mayor of Ipswich, Mary Blake, said preparations for the homecoming event would get under way at the weekend.

She said: “This is such an important occasion for Ipswich and for the Vikings and I am looking forward to Monday very much indeed.

“We are all in awe of the bravery showed by our servicemen and I hope that thousands of local people will come out and cheer them home after their gruelling tour of Afghanistan.

“We shall make sure that the troops get a real Ipswich welcome.”

Lorraine McClure, mother of private Aaron McClure, 19, from Ipswich, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan five years ago, will be attending the march.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be a brilliant day.”
