A 17-year-old boy from Ipswich has appeared before magistrates in the town charged with possession of a blade and cannabis in connection with the stabbing of another teenager outside a fast-food restaurant at Ravenswood.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court this morning.

He did not enter a plea and was released on conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday, June 21.

A curfew was put in place and he will be forced to wear an electronic tag meaning he must be at his home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am each day.

An 18-year-old man from Ipswich remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of attempted murder, following the attack near the car park of McDonald’s in Ravenswood Avenue, and last night detectives were granted extra time to question him.

A 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man have both been released under investigation, pending further inquiries.

The arrests came after police were alerted to the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

The victim remains in hospital receiving treatment although his condition is now described as being stable.

Police say they are not directly linking the incident to the murder of 17-year-old Tavis Spencer-Aitkens in Packard Avenue on June 2 or to another stabbing of a man in his 20s at an address in Pauline Street on June 11.

However, all three attacks were believed to have been targeted.

Det Sup Ericson said: “We know members of the community will be sitting on very valuable information which could help us. Now is the time to do the right thing and to talk to us and give us that information or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously. This was yet another appalling and shocking attack on a young man, so we urge people who have some knowledge of this incident to come forward and speak to us.”

Officers are particularly appealing for anyone with CCTV, dash cams, or mobile phone footage, who were in the area of McDonald’s, between 7pm and 8pm on June 13 to make contact.

A mobile police station will remain in place at the Hening Avenue area of Ravenswood for the next few days and additional high visibility patrols across the town will continue.

Wider work on engaging with community leaders to address the concerns of people living and working in the area and to assist in reassuring the community will also continue over the coming days.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the major investigation team by visiting the online portal or calling 101 and quoting reference 37/32508/18.

Alternatively, call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
