A road in the heart of Ipswich is closed on Sunday while a huge crane lifts plant and equipment on to the top of the Buttermarket Centre as part of its multi-million pound redevelopment.

The centre is currently in the middle of conversion work which will create a leisure-based centre as part of a £35million investment in the town centre centre – with a new 12-screen Empire cinema at its heart.

The Buttermarket shopping centre car park was closed and alternative arrangements had to be made for buses and taxis to get into the Old Cattle Market bus station for the day.

The conversion work at the Buttermarket is due to be completed towards the end of year. The next major change will be TK Maxx moving from its current site on the first floor to the ground floor unit which was previously the bottom storey of the centre’s department store. That is due to be completed next month.
