Parents and carers of people with an eating disorder are invited to a free information event being held in Ipswich.

Attendees will be able to hear from highly regarded professionals about treatments, support mechanisms and different issues surrounding the mental health problem.

Bramacare is hosting the event on September 7 from 10am to 2.30pm at its inpatient eating disorder treatment centre The White House, which opened earlier this year and is the first of its kind in Suffolk.

Among the speakers already booked are Mary McDermott, a dietitian specialising in eating disorders with 20 years’ experience; Ruth McGugan, speaking on the mental health benefits of art therapy and yoga; and Frederike Jacob, a psychotherapist in the field of mental health and eating disorders, who will share her knowledge on treating patients.

Farzana Quddus, of Bramacare, said: “Bramacare wishes to hold an event to raise awareness in East Anglia about eating disorders.

“We are Suffolk’s first inpatient specialist eating disorder treatment centre and feel passionate about raising awareness and reducing the stigma around eating disorders, to hopefully encourage more people to seek treatment.”

Entry is free but tickets must be booked via Eventbrite.
