A voyeur caught filming women in the changing cubicles at Crown Pools in Ipswich has been barred from swimming pools for two years.

Neil Elliston, of Hurricane Place, Ipswich, concealed a mobile phone in a towel in an attempt to video women undressing on three occasions.

Elliston pleaded guilty to three counts of voyeurism when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

The case was adjourned for sentencing while a probation report could be compiled.

When the 43-year-old returned to be sentenced by the court he was given a two-year community order.

As part of the order he was prohibited from attending any public or private swimming pool.

In addition he must also sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

All three incidents occurred at Crown Pools in June last year over a period of less than a week.

Elliston was said to have used the camera on his mobile phone in an effort to take video clips of women in the next cubicle.

Various clips were found on his phone after he was arrested.

One of Elliston’s victims noticed the phone had been set up under the partition while she was getting changed.

The camera had been in a scrunched up red/burgundy towel which had been pushed partly under the cubicle she was using.

Originally it was reported to police that having noticed the camera she looked under the partition to see a man on his hands and knees.

Elliston is said to have told police he was worried about people looking at him and he left the camera running to catch anyone trying to do so.

As well as his community order and his ban from swimming pools, Elliston was ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and a further £60 to the victims’ fund.
