A scaffolding lorry parked in the “wrong direction” blocked a lane on a main road near Ipswich as commuters suffered a morning of tailbacks this morning.

Tailbacks reportedly stretched back to the A14 after police received reports of a lorry blocking a lane on the A137 Wherstead Road at just after 8.15am.

It caused widespread disruption between the Pannington Hall Lane and the B1456 The Strand junctions and prompted long delays for commuters in Ipswich.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said the scaffolding lorry had been “parking in the wrong direction”. She said officers spoke to the owner of the vehicle who removed it from the road at just after 9am.
