IPSWICH: A woman who admitted wounding after her husband was stabbed with a knife during a row is due to be sentenced next month.

Gayle Bass, of Shakespeare Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to unlawful and malicious wounding when she appeared before Judge John Devaux for a hearing at the town’s crown court.

Her husband, Paul Bass, 36, sustained a single stab wound to the chest during the incident.

At the time it was reported that a carving knife had been used to inflict the injury.

Mr Bass was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

His injuries were not said to be life-threatening and none of his major organs were damaged as a result of the attack.

It is understood Mr Bass was wounded after an argument between the pair got out of hand. Paramedics were called to the home the couple shared in Shakespeare Road shortly before 10.40pm on June 21.

The ambulance service then contacted police when they realised the seriousness of what had occurred. After Mr Bass received treatment at his home for around 30 minutes, he was taken to the hospital in Heath Road.

His 36-year-old wife was arrested the same night.

She was taken to Ipswich police station where she was charged before being released on bail pending her first court appearance at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

Mrs Bass is due to be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on November 24. She is currently on conditional bail until her scheduled return to court.
