KEEP you eyes peeled for this bird - Isis is the last owl who escaped from a sanctuary who remains on the loose.

Isis is two foot high, with orange eyes and a sandy coloured plumage, and has been spotted around the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at Stonham, Aspal, near Stowmarket.

The 11-year-old Pharaoh owl vanished after being released by suspected animal rights activists or vandals who used bolt cutters to free 30 birds from the centre at Stonham Aspal, near Stowmarket recently.

A spokeswoman for the sanctuary said last night: “We have had sightings as far away as Milton Keynes and Brandon, but it would not be our bird, and shows how many owls are out there in the wild.

“We believe Isis is still local and alive, at 11 he is among those more capable of living in the wild. At least the others are back and we are not giving up on him either. It's a case of spotting him and catching him.”

All the other birds have now been found around the site in woodland and hedgerows except Isis, who remains on the loose despite sightings in the Debenham areas, around Crowfield church and at Stowupland.

If you spot Isis call the centre 01449 711425.
