It's a thriller - 25k for Jacko's hat

THE Antiques Roadshow has turned out to be a real Thriller for Michael Jackson fan Joanne Fiske.

THE Antiques Roadshow has turned out to be a real Thriller for Michael Jackson fan Joanne Fiske.

For Mrs Fiske could be forgiven for bouncing off the wall after she was told that a hat belonging to the late pop legend is worth 25,000.

And she could soon be beating off bids for the black fedora hat as she weighs up whether or not to sell it.

Mrs Fiske said she could not believe it when she was told how much the hat was worth at the filming of the Antiques Roadshow at Somerleyton Hall on Thursday.

The 35-year-old, from Gorleston, has had the hat since she won it in a tabloid newspaper competition in 1991.

Jackson famously threw his hat out of the window of London's Mayfair Hotel while he was celebrating his 30th birthday on his Bad world tour in 1988.

Although Mrs Fiske is an avid Jackson fan, she admits she is tempted to sell the hat for a small fortune in the wake of the 50-year-old singer's death in June.

She said: “When they said it was worth a minimum of 25,000 I just could not believe it. I felt I was the talk of the roadshow.

“Everyone was saying 'she has got a Michael Jackson hat'. Everyone who worked at Somerleyton Hall was saying 'can we touch it?'

“I am thinking of selling it as the Antiques Roadshow said it was a good time to sell as Michael Jackson was mega news at the moment.”

As she queued up for three hours to have the hat valued, Mrs Fiske was unsure whether or not to go ahead with the valuation. She said she kept thinking to herself: “Shall I or shan't I?”

Mrs Fiske saw the star perform at Wembley in 1998 on his HIStory tour and she had tickets for his ill-fated comeback This Is It tour at London's O2 Arena which was due to start in July.

Describing the moment she heard of his death, she said: “I was really upset. I just could not believe he had died. I was so looking forward to seeing him.”

Mrs Fiske will be showing off the hat on BBC One's One Show tonight.
