An Ipswich man accused of committing offences of indecency with a schoolgirl more than three decades ago has been cleared by a jury.

Before Ipswich Crown Court was John Morley, 52, of Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, who had denied two offences of committing an act of gross indecency with a girl aged between five and eight between September 1983 and September 1987.

He was cleared of both offences after a four day trial.

Giving evidence during the trial Morley said there was no truth in any of the claims made by the alleged victim.

In a police video interview played to the jury the alleged victim said Morley had made her touch him indecently.

She said that when she was 13 or 14 she had read an article at school about sex abuse and what Morley had allegedly made her do to him had come back to her.

She said she had immediately thought: “Oh my God it happened to me.”

The witness said she hadn’t thought about what Morley had allegedly done to her in the intervening years until she read the article.
