A WOMAN and an infant boy have died following a suspected arson attack on their house in the early hours today, say police.
Police were called to the terraced property in Chatham Hill, Chatham, at around 2.30am following a report of a fire.
A woman believed to be in her 20s and an infant boy, died in the fire.
Three people were also taken to hospital with injuries suffered in the blaze.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.
A Kent Police spokeswoman confirmed that the fire was being treated as suspicious and officers were investigating the possibility of a link with a series of arson attacks in the area.
The police spokeswoman said: “Tragically, two people, a woman believed to be in her 20s and an infant boy, died in the fire.
“Three casualties were taken to hospital and neighbouring properties were evacuated.
“A man has suffered serious burns and is described as being in a life-threatening condition at East Grinstead hospital.
“A man, thought to be in his 20s, has suffered serious injuries (broken bones) and a woman suffered burn and smoke inhalation injuries.
“They are both currently being treated at Medway Maritime Hospital.”
