POLICE are today renewing their appeal for information following reports of a shoeless knife man in Capel St Mary.

Several police officers attended the scene at about 1.40pm on Sundayafter members of the public spotted a man with a knife chase a second man in a car park off the High Street.

Although yesterday police said there was no further action to be taken, they are today renewing their appeal to speak to those involved in the incident.

The second man left the scene in a silver Ford Fiesta, which was last seen near the primary school. The first man was pursued on foot by officers, and the helicopter was in the area to assist the search, but the man was not found. A third man was also seen to run off from the Co-op store in The Street.

Capel resident David Beeching, who saw the drama unfold from a parking bay opposite the Co-op, said: “I heard there was a fight and that someone had pulled a knife out. I don't think it was used before he ran off.

“There was a police car parked in a bay in Thorney Road and two more cars at the back entrance to the school behind the Co-op.”

The first man is described as white, 5ft 6ins with short dark hair and was wearing a long-sleeved red top but no shoes. He also had a speech impediment.

Police are keen to trace the man who left in the car, who is described as white, in his early 30s or younger, 5ft 11ins, with a slim build and dark hair. Officers also want to speak to the third man, who was thought to be in his late teens and was wearing a dark zip-up top and jeans.
