SUFFOLK'S largest music and performing arts festival is to battle it out with the heavyweights at national awards in November, it has emerged.

The Latitude festival, which is held at the Earl of Stradbroke's Henham Park estate near Southwold, has been nominated in six categories at the UK Festival awards.

The successful event is shortlisted in the best medium sized festival, most fan friendly festival, best headline act and the festival rock act - both for Arcade Fire.

As awareness about the risks of climate change has increased, Latitude has also been shortlisted in the category of the greener festival award, recognising it as a leading example in the quest for a more environmentally-friendly entertainment industry.

The event faces fierce competition from several of its larger and more established counterparts including Glastonbury, V Festival and the Reading and Leeds festivals.

Fans of the festival are encouraged to vote online at www.festivalawards.com until October 28 with the winners being announced in London on November 6.
