A man who broadcast his sponsored headshave live online in memory of his sister has said he hopes it has raised awareness of the work that support services such as Macmillan Cancer Care provide.
Ipswich man Matt Porter, 47, had his head shaved at Michael Richards salon on Monday to mark 34 years since his sister Helen’s death, and the advances in support for those living with cancer and their families.
“It went brilliantly,” he said. “It’s a bit of a relief, I don’t know what to do with myself.
“It was for my sister and that was in the back of my mind the whole time. I feel like I have achieved something.
“I am truly humbled by the support I have received in the run up to my Brave The Shave, it has been a fitting tribute to Helen who’s bravery during her illness has provided me with the motivation to keep nagging people to sponsor me over the last four weeks.
“Lots of people have said nice things about the video, so it’s had the desired effect.
“It educates people that these services are out there because people are ill.”
He has raised more than £1,700 for Macmillan Cancer Care.
