Drivers heading north on the A12 into Suffolk faced long delays after an accident closed one lane of the road at Capel St Mary during this morning’s rush hour.

A Peugeot car was in collision with a van shortly before 8am. One person was taken to hospital after complaining that his neck hurt – but he was not thought to have sustained serious injuries.

One lane of the carriageway was closed while police investigated the accident and made preparations to clear the wreckage – but this led to long queues of traffic extending into Essex as vehicles had to filter into a single lane.

The operation to clear the road took some time and there were delays of up to an hour for some motorists heading towards Ipswich during the morning rush hour.

The road was not expected to be completely clear and traffic flowing as normal until the middle of Thursday morning.
