A BIRTHDAY card intended for a four-mile trip within Ipswich instead travelled nearly 5,000 miles - via Jamaica.
The card was posted first class in Garrick Way on September 6 and was intended to arrive in time for Betty Thompson's birthday the following day.
It finally landed on her doorstep yesterday, nearly a month after it was posted and complete with a stamp saying: “misdirected to Jamaica”.
Mrs Thompson, of Atherton Road, said: “It was posted at the same time as a card from my brother's daughter and that one arrived the following day.
“I couldn't understand how anything could go so far adrift. I got in touch with Royal Mail and they've asked me to send it to them so they can investigate.
“I wasn't really annoyed - more surprised it could happen.”
