TRAVELLERS heading to London today were faced with serious rail delays after a points failure at Chelmsford.

Most trains were delayed by up to 45 minutes, but some were cancelled altogether as delays mounted on the main line from London to East Anglia.

The problem hit the line shortly after 7am, and Network Rail engineers were quickly sent to the scene.

The points were fixed shortly after 8am, but a train was stuck in the section of track and it took some time to make sure all the trains were in the right place.

It was not until lunchtime that services were fully able to return to normal.
