Elizabeth Cooke died when the quad bike she was riding collided with a Range Rover near Chelmsford.
The seven-year-old died later in hospital after suffering internal injuries.
Essex police confirmed today that a 46-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the crash and released on bail until later this month.
