A PAEDOPHILE who downloaded more than 2,000 sexual images of children onto his computer is to be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court.Peter Davies, 44, of Rendlesham Court, Bramford Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to 16 sample offences of making indecent photographs of a child under the age of 16 between March 2000 and February 2001.

A PAEDOPHILE who downloaded more than 2,000 sexual images of children onto his computer is to be sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court.

Peter Davies, 44, of Rendlesham Court, Bramford Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to 16 sample offences of making indecent photographs of a child under the age of 16 between March 2000 and February 2001.

He also admitted possessing images between 2000 and 2007.

Gareth Davies, prosecuting at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court, said Davies' computer was seized by police on March 8 this year.

A search discovered 2,249 sexual images of children, at varying levels of indecency.

There were 1,958 sexual images at level one, the lowest level, 103 pictures at level two, 78 at level three and 96 at level four.

There were also 14at level five - the highest level which show the greatest degrees of child abuse.

Mr Davies said the defendant had no previous record for similar offences. However, the court heard he was now facing around 12 months in custody.

Magistrates said the offences were so serious that the case should go to Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing.

Davies was told to sign the sex offences register.

He was released from court on unconditional bail until the crown court hearing.

A date for the next hearing has not yet been set.
