A 34-YEAR-OLD Ipswich man is in jail today for indecent assault after he left a teenage girl's neck covered in love bites.

Magistrates heard Stephen Woods, of Renfrew Road, met the 13-year-old girl when she was playing in a street with friends.

The court heard the Woods, who was living with his wife and two children at the time, swapped phone numbers with the girl and met up with her several times.

The victim's parents became concerned when they noticed a number of love-bites on her neck and called police when they discovered they were from Woods.

At an earlier hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich prosecutor Gareth Davies described the victim as "very young looking" for her age.

He said the victim had been playing "running races – the usual sort of thing you expect of a girl of that age" with friends at the time she met Woods.

At the earlier hearing Sharon Hector, mitigating, had described the incident as "very much at the end of the scale of indecent assault" and said: "there was no suggestion of sexual activity."

Woods admitted a charge of indecently assaulting a female under 16 years of age.

Magistrates jailed him for 14 weeks
