A MAN was killed today after a fire ripped through a caravan.
The blaze took place in Thorney Bay Caravan Park in Canvey shortly before 5am.
Police and fire investigation officers will later today be working to establish the cause of the fire, although there is no suggestion at this stage that the cause is suspicious.
Divisional officer Bob Wahl said: “This was a severe fire and crews did well to put it out quickly, particularly battling against the winds that were sweeping the flames through the caravan.
“Firefighting operations were also hindered by an LPG cylinder alight inside.
“The speed at which crews dealt with this incident is demonstrated by the fact that the whole caravan has not been destroyed.

“Unfortunately we were not able to save the casualty found inside.
“We were alerted by security guards on site who spotted the fire. Because of the noise of the winds, neighbouring caravan residents appeared to be unaware of the fire.”
