A PENSIONER has told how he received a massive shock this morning after he was woken up by a car crashing into his home.

Russell Beckett, 84, was asleep in his Keightley Way home in Tuddenham St Martin at about 5.55am when he was woken up by loud noises.

He said: “I was in bed asleep and heard this hell of a bang and thought 'what is that?'. I heard lots of groaning noises and I opened the curtains and could see the car and saw a man laying in lots of rubble.

“I got dressed and quickly opened the door and rushed out there. There was blood everywhere. I came in and rang my next door neighbour and he came out and could see what state the man was in. He could not talk or anything.”

When he went outside Mr Beckett realised the injured man was one of his neighbours, who is believed to be 81. He was lying near to his driveway wall while his red Renault car had crashed into the house.

Mr Beckett said the man goes to buy the papers every morning and delivers them to a neighbour. He said he thought it looked like he had been run over by his own car.

The incident left Mr Beckett shaken up. “It was a hell of a shock and it frightened the life out of me because it all happened so quickly,” he said.

The victim was taken to Ipswich Hospital by paramedics with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
