AN Ipswich man feared that both his arms were going to be broken while he was being robbed in his home, a court heard.

Keith Wright described his alleged attacker, 39-year-old Stuart Leathers, who he has known for 20 years, as 'demented' during the incident.

Mr Wright told Ipswich Crown Court that Leathers and a woman friend had turned up at his home at about 6pm one evening and he had given them a couple of drinks.

He said that Leathers, who was normally quiet, was loud and appeared to have been drinking before he arrived at his house.

The woman with Leathers had left and Leathers had then repeatedly asked Mr Wright for money.

When Mr Wright refused to give him any, Leathers had allegedly grabbed him round the throat and pushed him face down on the carpet with his arms behind his back.

Mr Wright claimed that Leathers had twisted his arms: "I really thought they were going to break," he said.

"I have never ever felt pain like it," he said.

He described Leathers as demented.

He claimed that Leathers had then taken £240 from his trouser pocket and had kicked him a couple of times.

Before leaving Mr Wright claimed that Leathers had threatened to kill him if he contacted the police.

Leathers, of Wells Close, Ipswich, has denied robbing Mr Wright and threatening to kill him.

After his arrest Leathers admitted having an altercation with Mr Wright. He claims that Mr Wright had become upset at something he said and had pushed him towards the door.

Leathers had pushed Mr Wright back and had then left.

The trial continues.
