CCTV images were released last night of a man police would like to speak to in connection with a sexual assault on a train.

It happened on the 10.18pm Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea service on Friday, December 11.

British Transport Police (BTP) have now issued images of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

Detective Constable Alan Judd, investigating officer, said the victim, a 33-year-old female, had been out with friends in London and was making her way home.

“The victim was seated and reading a newspaper when she realised that someone was stroking her leg,” he said. “She tried to move away from the man, who sat opposite to her, but he then started to move his hand up her skirt.

“As the train arrived at Shenfield, at around 10.30pm, the victim got off the train and reported the incident to police.”

The suspect is described as Asian or of mixed race origin, between the ages of 35 and 45, of medium build, with short dark curly hair and wearing smart casual clothes.

Det Con Judd added: “This was a very distressing and intimidating experience for the victim, which resulted in her rushing off the train in a state of distress.

“This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and I would encourage anyone with any information or who recognises the man in the photograph to get in contact with police.”

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number: B07/146074/09, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
