Firefighters have rescued a man who sustained a spinal injury and was trapped in an upstairs room.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called by an ambulance crew to Birchcroft Road, Ipswich, at around 11.30am.
Medics needed help from the fire crews to bring the casualty downstairs as a stretcher could not be manoeuvred round the staircase.
A spokeswoman for the fire service described the man as elderly and said it had been “time critical” to get the man to hospital.
An aerial ladder was used to bring the man safely to ground-floor level through an upstairs window. He was in the care of the ambulance crew by 12.50pm.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said the man was believed to be in his 70s and had suffered a “cord compression” injury.
He was taken to Ipswich Hospital and was “conscious and breathing” throughout the incident.
