History lovers will get a rare chance to experience the history of Martlesham Heath Airfield with a special guided tour on Wednesday.
The Martlesham Heath Aviation Society has organised a guided walk from 1.30pm Wednesday, where walkers will be able to observe the remains of the airfield and surrounding base, finding out about its history, missions and some of the famous names stationed there throughout its history.
The free walk meets at the Martlesham Heath Control Tower Museum off Eagle Way, although walkers are encouraged to make a donation which will go towards the upkeep of the control tower museum.
Organisers of the walk said: “If you’re interested in landscape history, airfield archaeology, or just fancy the chance to have a walk in the unique urban landscape of this Second World War airfield, then this walk is for you.”
The walk will cover three miles and last 90 minutes.
