WHEN youngsters returned to the nursery at Murrayfield school at the end of the summer holidays this month, they found their three-foot sunflower had grown into this 10-foot plus monster!
The triffid-like plant grew like topsy during August - despite having no care or attention during the holiday.
Nursery nurse Anne Berry said: “It's not even one we planted. It's a self-sown sunflower from last year - the ones we planted look weedy by comparison!
“The children watered and cared for it last term, but nothing happened during the holidays and it's shot up - we're all astonished by it,” she added.
